Slot games volatility refers to the level of risk for wins. To put it simply, volatility, or variance, indicates to the players how often they can expect wins, and how big they’ll be.
Slot Games can have a low, medium, and high level of volatility. The main difference between them is the frequency and size of the wins. Both low and highly volatile games are present equally in the industry.
Mathematics in a casino. Volatility.
There is a concept of gambling volatility. Again, for those familiar with probability theory, I will say that this is variance/dispersion. For people who are more distant from this science, I will no longer give the formulas, since they look a little more complicated and, in my opinion, are beyond the scope of this post.
Instead, I will explain what game volatility affects. Note that with the same house edge value, the volatility of the game can be completely different. This in turn affects the player’s experience of the game. Roulette is again a great example for us because the volatility of roulette depends on the player’s strategy.
The volatility of the game is high if payments to the player are made less frequently, but with a higher coefficient. For roulette, this would mean betting on “numbers” when the chance of winning is low, but the reward for it is high.
Conversely, volatility is low if payments to the player are made frequently, but in small amounts. In the case of roulette, these will be bets on red and black.
Is there a difference for the player if the house edge ends up being the same? Of course there is, because the player wins back 97.3% of his money only in the long term. This means that with equal bets on a game with high volatility, he needs a much larger supply of money in order to have time to “recoup” in case of failure.
In principle, these two values (house edge and volatility) are enough for a basic understanding of how gambling works.
Choosing which game you’ll play depends on the type of player you are – if you like riskier playtime you’ll want to explore the high volatility games, whereas lower levels of variance are appealing to players who are there to simply enjoy and occasionally score some cash.
