The Swedish Gambling license (Authority) (Spelinspektionen, formerly Swedish: Lotteriinspektionen) is the government regulator of gambling in Sweden. The Authority is Sweden’s government administrative body for gambling and lotteries, which regulates the Swedish gambling markets.
Swedish gambling license is under authority of government supervisory body and operating under the Swedish Gambling Act, the Slot Machines Act and the Casino Act. The Office also monitors developments in the gambling and lottery markets and advises the government on casinos. The Swedish Gambling Authority also issues lottery permits and checks the approval of various lotteries and games.
From January 1, 2021, new gambling regulations are in force in Sweden, in particular, eSports are regulated. The rules prohibit betting on rule violations in sports matches (for example, yellow and red cards in football), as well as on the individual performance of players under 18 years of age. The rules of Swedish gambling license do not prohibit betting on doubles matches (for example, tennis) if one of the members of the doubles team is over 18 years of age. If the majority of players (three out of four) in a doubles match are under 18 years of age, all bets will be void. The same rules apply to eSports.
The Swedish Gambling Market Commission conducted a market study, proposing that the inspectorate strengthen regulation of the market. In particular, it was proposed to ban gambling advertising from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm and approve a deposit limit of 5,000 kroons on a permanent basis.
